Humanization is fundamentally putting yourself in the other person’s place, that is, having and practicing empathy. Be the other person who is healthy, sick, family, companion … because what is really important is trying to make the other person feel listened to, cared for, understood, accompanied, felt, understood, respected. And that which may seem so much and so complicated can be summed up, many times in a glance, a gesture, a handshake and even a silence. So simple and so complex at the same time. But if we do not know this or the nurses want to do it, regardless of whether we do it in healthcare, teaching, research or management, we should start to seriously worry.
